Bangalore: “A talk by the noted photographer C. Rajagopal at the Max Mueller Bhavan changed my life. He inspired me so much that I took up photography as a profession after doing a Diploma in Printing Technology. He is my guru and role model,” recalled K. Gopinathan, Chief Photographer of The Hindu, Bangalore.

Mr. Gopinathan was honoured by the Essel Group on Saturday in recognition of his contribution in the field of photojournalism.

The “Essel Karnataka’s Best Media Award–2008” was presented to Ishwar Daitota, editor of The Times of India (Kannada). K E Eapen, retired Professor, Department of Journalism, of Bangalore University, was given the award in recognition of his outstanding contribution to journalism education.

While K.S. Sachidananda Murthy, Resident Editor of The Week and Malayala Manorama was given the award under the magazine journalism category, R.P. Venkatesh Murthy, Editor of Janata Madhyama was honoured for his contribution to the growth of journalism in districts. Vishweshwar Bhat, Editor of Vijaya Karnataka, was presented an award under the newspaper journalism category.

The jury, headed by R. Ramakrishna, retired judge of the Karnataka High Court, comprised several eminent personalities from the field of media.
