Readers of The Hindu have some good news. From the current 16-page colour, the newspaper will feature 24-page colour shortly with the commissioning of a world -class printing press at the newspaper’s printing facility at Bommasandra here on Thursday.
Arun Anant, Chief Executive Officer of Kasturi and Sons Ltd., publishers of The Hindu , Business Line , Frontline and Sportstar , inaugurated the new DiamondSpirit printing machinery from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in the presence of vice-president (Production) K. Krishnan and other senior executives of the company.
The new machine can produce 24-page colour in broadsheet at the rate of 75,000 copies an hour.
First in industry
This new press with shaftless technology from Japan incorporates many new features such as the closed loop ink density control with automatic pre-settings, which no other newspaper in the country has installed yet, besides printing four-page wide super panorama image and automatic colour register control from QI press controls, Netherlands. Regular printing on the new machine will commence by this month-end.
