Members of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Shetty faction) took out a rally here on Friday to protest against the reported remarks of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Chandrashekhar Kambar, recipient of Jnanapith Award and burnt an effigy.

Led by State president of the vedike H. Shivarame Gowda and its local unit president Yellappa, the protesters raised slogans against Mr. Thackeray. Later, Mr. Yellappa said that Mr. Thackeray's remarks were uncultured. Mr. Thackeray had no right to demand the Government withdraw the award given to Mr. Kambar. Mr. Thackeray had asked the Government to recall hundreds of people living in Mumbai, running hotels and restaurants, and give them jobs in Karnataka. However, thousands of Marathi-speaking people were living in Karnataka and running business establishments. Let Mr. Thackeray recall them from Karnataka to Mumbai first, he said.
