It was testing times for several hundreds of IAS aspirants who took the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) preliminary exam here on Sunday. It is estimated that about five lakh students took the exam conducted across 45 centres in the country.

The exam consisted of two papers, the Civil Services Aptitude Test and the General Studies paper. First-timers looked satisfied with their performance while also considering it a valuable experience.

Thrupthi Chengappa, an aspirant who wrote the exam at SSRMV Pre-University College, Jayanagar, said, “The examination was easy and had relatively simple questions. This is the first time that I have attempted the exam and hence, my preparation began only three months ago. People who have prepared well would have found this exam very easy. Most questions were expected.”

Bhoolakshmi M. said that the English comprehension passages were difficult. She said she could not finish the paper. She found the passages to be long and their essence was difficult to comprehend.

However, some students expressed disappointment over the inclusion of topics such as Indian Polity and the emphasis on the Indian Constitution.

According to a coaching centre’s analysis of the paper, “For a well-prepared candidate, it would not be difficult to score at least 100 marks from this Paper II alone (out of maximum 200 marks).”
