A teenager has been arrested on the charge of raping a four-year-old girl on April 13.

Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, Police Commissioner B.A. Padmanayan said the boy had given the police the slip twice. However, following a tip-off that he was hiding on a building terrace in Vidya Nagar, the police arrested him.

Mr. Padmanayan said the boy, who was earlier arrested on charges of stealing 20 vehicles, had spent three months in a remand home and was released on bail in the first week of April.

“On April 13, he took the four-year-old on a stolen motorcycle, promising her chocolates.

When the girl didn’t return, her brother informed his parents who filed a complaint with the Keshwapur police. The child was later found in a semi-conscious state and rushed to KIMS Hospital, where the doctors confirmed that she had been raped,” he said.

Mr. Padmanayan said while the accused was on the run, he had stolen four motorcycles that have been recovered.

Although the police were close to catching him twice, he managed to escape, he said.

Not first crime

The Police Commissioner said the accused had confessed to raping two other minor girls and sexually abusing a few boys.

Mr. Padmanayan said a team comprising police inspector Prabhugouda D.K., sub-inspector B.K. Patil and police personnel M.H. Halavar, C.M. Kambalimath, S.B. Boodannavar, R.N. Koli, S.M. Kurahatti, B.F. Belagavi, A.S. Macched and Fakkiresh Gobbargumpi nabbed the accused.
