An eighth standard student committed suicide by hanging himself from a window in the bathroom of his residence at Shantinagar in Hassan on Monday. The deceased has been identified as H.D. Naveen, student of Government Junior College for Boys.

Naveen had not appeared for two papers during the recently concluded annual examination because of which his results were withheld. It is said that his parents had scolded him for not appearing for two of his examinations.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction A.T Chamaraj said normally all students are promoted to the next class till they reach the ninth standard. However, in Naveen's case, his results had been withheld as he had not appeared for two papers.

Pension Mohalla station police sub-inspector Devendrappa said that Naveen's parents had filed a complaint.

According to the police, Naveen had gone into the bathroom in the morning and had not come out for a long time. When the parents broke opened the door, they found him hanging.
