MYSORE: Teachers and officers of the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) considered responsible for improving academic standards in six districts coming under Mysore division were felicitated at a function here on Saturday. The felicitation was organised under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).

It is the first time that the officers and teachers were honoured in recognition of their contribution.

Chief Executive Officer of the Mysore Zilla Panchayat N. Manjula felicitated 26 teachers, resource persons and officials at a function held at Maharani's D.Ed. College here.

Joint Director of Education Kumaraswamy, Deputy Director of Public Instruction Nagendra Kumar, DIET principal Kemparaje Gowda and delegates from the DPI of the six districts, including the DDPIs, were present at the function.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Kumar said that block education officers, education officers, project officers of SSA, block resource persons, cluster resource persons, representatives of the Block Education Centre and Inclusive Education, Research and Training were among those felicitated.

Besides mementos and certificates, cash prizes between Rs. 3,000 and Rs. 5,000 were given away.
