Members of the Bangalore District Taxi Driver’s Union (BDTDU) staged a protest here on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum to the officials of the Labour Department, highlighting the need for social security schemes for the benefit of taxi drivers.

Speaking on behalf of the taxi drivers, Manjunatha R., General Secretary of BDTDU, told The Hindu that one of their main demands was that the government should provide pension to them after they turn 60. He also sought medical reimbursement for drivers injured in road accidents.
