‘The idea is to make buses that are of global standards’

Tata Marcopolo Motors Ltd., which presently manufactures 75 buses per day at its unit in Belur Industrial Area near Dharwad, plans to set up a global bus design centre in Dharwad.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, prior to the inauguration of the Wire Harness Division at Patil Electric Works at Gokul Industrial Area in Hubli, Chief Executive Officer of the company Vinay K. Pathak said that the idea was to manufacture buses that were up to global standards. Mr. Pathak said that already 80 people were working in the design section of the unit at Belur Industrial Area. “We plan to increase the number to 250 and develop a global bus design centre in the coming days,” he said.

Designs to be improved

He said that engineers would be working on improving the designs from Brazil.

“The whole objective is to make Dharwad a centre that produces designs of global standards,” he said.
