Task forces will be set up in taluks to monitor relief measures in villages hit by drinking water scarcity, Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram has said.

At a meeting of the zilla panchayat here on Thursday, he said water was now being supplied by tankers to 120 villages in Chikkodi division. Task forces would prepare action plans to deal with scarcity conditions in taluks and the repairing of borewells, open wells, pump sets or electricity connections.

He said the process for the appointment of high school teachers to fill vacancies in the Chikkodi educational district had begun. The process to fill 1,300 posts of primary school teachers would be taken up soon, he added.

Zilla panchayat president Shanta Krishna Kallolikar and vice-president Usha Kallappa Shintri were present.
