MANGALORE: A "jatha" taken out by Nisarga Kala Thanda to create awareness about literacy in Mangalore Taluk, which was inaugurated on March 5, concluded on Friday. It was organised by the Department of Public Education, Bangalore, under the "Suvarna Shikshana Andolan-2007".

Similar jathas were taken out in all the taluks of the district. In Mangalore Taluk, the jatha was inaugurated by president of Mangalore Taluk Panchayat Ranganath Shetty.

Members of Nisarga Kala Thanda gave street plays, songs and dance performances during the jatha to convey messages related to literacy, sanitation and environment protection. Special performances were given in slums and areas in which minorities reside.

Leader of Nisarga Kala Thanda Nanda Pais told presspersons here on Friday that her team had given performances in all forty-nine gram panchayats of Mangalore Taluk and in Mangalore city.
