N. Dharam Singh, MP, has asked the zilla panchayat and the district administration to take strict action against officials involved in financial misappropriation or dereliction of duty in implementing Central schemes.
At a meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee in the zilla panchayat on Wednesday, Mr. Singh said corruption and inefficiency in implementation of development programmes “cannot be tolerated”.
Zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer Jitendra Naik said the panchayat raj engineering department chief engineer had ordered an inquiry into the alleged irregularities in drinking water schemes.
“A preliminary inquiry has found that officials paid Rs. 18 lakh above the amount bid in a tender,” he said.
Mr. Singh asked the CEO to suspend the officials involved and submit a report on it.
Mr. Naik said a high-level team had probed into the alleged irregularities in works under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. We have suspended 33 panchayat development officers. Criminal cases will be filed against all of them, Mr. Naik said.
Another inquiry had revealed that officials had fudged the management information service data to show that they had taken up 34 works in the Varavatti Gram Panchayat without actually doing so, Mr. Naik said. He said that the Bidar Assistant Commissioner had been asked to probe allegations of irregularities in the Chimmegaon Gram Panchayat.
Deputy Commissioner Sameer Shukla asked the Education Department officials to file criminal cases against officials involved in irregularities in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
