Hubli-Dharwad West MLA Aravind Bellad has promised to renovate the swimming pool here and reopen it for the public before the next summer holidays.

Speaking to presspersons after visiting the pool here on Thursday, he said he would try to provide better facilities and upgrade the pool to international standards.

Dilapidated state

The swimming pool, which has been closed for two years, was in a dilapidated state. The pumpset to filter water has gone defunct, tiles on the surface have cracked, and weeds have grown all over the area.

Mr. Bellad said the former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar had allocated Rs. 7.5 crore in the budget for the development of swimming pools in Hubli and Dharwad.

He promised to get the amount sanctioned and start the renovation work at the earliest.

Mr. Bellad said he would discuss the issue with the Department of Youth Services and Sports and explore ways to give the pool a facelift. The officials would be directed to start the renovation work soon after monsoon, he said.

Development

Also, Mr. Bellad said the development of the supermarket had been incorporated in his Vision-2020 document and this would be disclosed to the public within 60 days. A specific plan was being made to renovate the supermarket, he said.
