Swamis of different maths and Dalit organisations opposed to ‘made snana' and ‘pankthi bhojana' have decided to step up their movement against the practices.

State convener of the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti (Sagar) D.G. Sagar told presspersons here on Saturday that on March 26, 120 heads of different maths, including Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swami of Nidumamidi Math, would stage a protest at the Freedom Park in Bangalore demanding a ban on ‘made snana' and pankthi bhojana'.

Prominent religious heads who would be participating in the protest include Tontada Siddalinga Swami of the Yediyur Tontadarya Mahasamsthana Math, Gadag-Dambal, Panditharadhya Shivacharya Swamigalu of Sanehalli Math in Chitradurga, and Siddarama Swami of Rudrakshi Math in Belgaum.

Outcry

“It is unfortunate that despite an outcry against these practices, the Government has not responded to the demand to ban them,” Mr. Sagar said.

In Gulbarga, the State-level protest would be preceded by a dharna and protest march on March 21. The DSS would be joined by members of the Pragatipara Chintakara Vedike in their protest.
