The State government, which earlier suspended the appointments made by the Visvesvaraya Technological University for a week, further extended the suspension period till the completion of an inquiry into the alleged irregularities involving the university authorities. The process of appointments to the posts of professors, assistant professors and lecturers was suspended to provide suitable representation to Hyderabad-Karnataka region as per Article 371 (J) of the Constitution. Higher Education Minister R.V. Deshpande on Wednesday told the Legislative Council that the suspension period would be extended till the completion of the inquiry.
