There was tension in Jalahalli coming under Bangalore North when supporters of two candidates of an Assembly constituency clashed here on Monday.

According to the police, supporters of Congress candidate Muniratna clashed with the supporters of BJP candidate M. Srinivas alleging that the latter were distributing pamphlets to the general public during the campaign informing them about the arrest of Muniratna a few days ago for allegedly intimidating the Returning Officer.

Muniratna’s supporters alleged that Srinivas was extracting political mileage out of the episode.

Heated arguments ensued between the two groups and a few of the supporters even manhandled one another, leading to tension. The Jalahalli police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Representatives of both the parties have filed complaints in this connection.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) S.N. Sidaramappa said that the Jalahalli police have registered the two complaints.

“We are verifying the complaints and will take action,” he said.

On April 17, the Rajarajeshwari Nagar police personnel arrested Congress candidate Muniratna for allegedly intimidating the Returning Officer and her staff members, when he went to file his nomination papers.
