Child marriage is an offence and the district administration will initiate stringent action against persons who encourage the social evil, Deputy Commissioner B.N. Krishnaiah has said.

Addressing students who participated in a rally against child marriages here on Wednesday, Mr. Krishnaiah urged the public to fight against the practice.

Earlier, he flagged off the rally from the district court complex. Mandya Superintendent of Police Koushalendra Kumar also urged people to support the cause. “We will initiate action against people who support child marriages. People should inform the child helpline if they get to know of such cases,” Mr. Kumar, who was the chief guest, said. More than 500 students from various educational institutions participated in the rally.
