Raju Shetty M.P. and chief of Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana has alleged that in the interests of eight private sugar mills in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, sugar export has been delayed by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar even though sugar prices are high with the increasing demand in the global market. Sugar in the international market is being sold at U.S. $ 700 per tonne and hence, if Indian sugar is exported, sugar co-operatives will be benefited and will be afford to pay fair price to sugarcane producers, according to Mr. Shetty.
