He didn't like the smell of paint and material used on film sets when his father took him there as a young boy. Little did R.N. Sudarshan know then that he would be associated with films for a lifetime. Son of actor-producer R. Nagendra Rao, Sudarshan entered the film industry with a role in Vijayanagarada Veeraputra, in what would be the start of a long career. His wife, actor Shailashree was a stewardess before she entered the silver screen through Sandhyaa Raaga.
The actor couple were chief guests at Belli Hejje, an interaction programme organised by the Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy here on Saturday.
Reflecting on his life and career with all its ups and downs, Sudarshan narrated how he was taken to Chennai, then Madras, in 1957 after he lost his mother. In time, Nagendra Rao got him admitted to the Madras Riding Club.
