HUBLI: Prem Chand, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Hubli Division, has called upon students to make efforts to reduce emission of greenhouse gases.

He was speaking at a programme organised on the occasion of World Environment Day at the Railway English Medium High School here on Thursday.

“One should take initiatives towards creating a low carbon economy by finding alternative renewable energy sources and by adopting eco-friendly consumption habits and lifestyle,” he said.

Mr. Prem Chand asked the students to avoid unnecessary use of vehicles.

He told them to contribute towards preserving water bodies.

Timothy G. Gonmei, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer, Hubli Division, called upon the students to grow trees in their neighbourhood and motivate others to do so.

Principal of the school Rukmini P. Vadavi was among those present.

Rally

Earlier, the students took out an awareness rally holding placards and banners highlighting the importance of the day and the need to conserve environment and check pollution.

The rally passed through main roads of the railway colony.

The students raised slogans on the adverse effects of global warming and the impact of deforestation.
