Krishnamurthy of Hospet, a first PU student of a leading private residential school here, has committed suicide owing to the alleged harassment by the hostel warden. He had consumed some pesticide on Wednesday and died at a private hospital on Thursday.

Following the incident, students of the college staged a night-long dharna in protest against the alleged harassment and demanded action against the hostel warden and the management. Members of the Bellary unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) also participated in the dharna on Thrusday.

Allegation

Meanwhile, Gangadhar, father of the boy, told presspersons that his son had repeatedly complained of not being comfortable in the hostel and wanted to change the college. Mr. Gagadhar has urged the authorities concerned to deal sternly with the guilty, in the interest of other students.

Several other students also complained of harassment by the warden. Sashikant Senthil, Assistant Commissioner, visited the spot and heard the grievances of students.

After inspecting the hostel, Mr. Senthil assured students that an inquiry would be held by the Deputy Director of Public Instruction and the Deputy Director of Pre-University Education and submit a report, following which the dharna was withdrawn.

Meanwhile, the ABVP has given a call for school/college bandh here seeking closure of all unauthorised educational institutions.

Ravigouda, Manikant Reddy, Mahantesh Nayak, Omprakash and Nagaraj led the agitation.

Gandhi Nagar police have registered a case.
