Students from various polytechnics pursuing diploma courses stepped up their agitation, demanding restoration of the carryover benefit (COB) system. The students, under the banner of Hyderabad Karnataka Polytechnic Students Federation, launched a sustained agitation from Wednesday to exert pressure on the government to concede their demands.

On the first day, the students walked out of their classes and formed a human chain at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk and submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, to the Deputy Commissioner. The students urged the Chief Minister to intervene and help students.

They pointed out that majority of the students who joined polytechnics were from Kannada-medium schools and hence found it difficult to follow classes in English.

The students said that they would hold demonstrations outside all polytechnics in the city from July 25 to August 3.
