Officials and teachers wear uniforms symbolising oneness

Belgaum: Teachers’ Day celebrations this year witnessed a welcome change with the participation of officials of the Education Department and teachers wearing uniforms symbolising oneness.

While the officials wore suits, the teachers were seen in sky blue shirts and navy blue trousers.

The occasion also witnessed a departure from the normal proceedings with Feroz Sait and Sanjay Patil, MLAs, deciding to sit back and allow schoolchildren to speak.


When the officials approached them to address the gathering, they suggested that schoolchildren be allowed to speak and there could a debate competition too.

Soon after felicitation of teachers who won the “Best Teacher” award for the year, the students from different schools walked up to the dais to deliver speech in their own choicest language.

The students spoke on the life of the first Vice-President and second President of India, S. Radhakrishnan, who had served as a teacher, whose birth anniversary is being celebrated as Teachers’ Day.

Impressive speech

Shravan Naik, a 10th standard student of the B.K. Model School, stole the show by delivering an impressive speech.

Zilla panchayat member Ganesh Hukkeri honoured him with a cash prize of Rs. 501.

The winners of the “Best Teacher” award, who were felicitated on the occasion were, D.K. Hiremath, (Nirmal High School, Modaga, Belgaum taluk; Y.V. Malalli, Government MLA’s Kannada Model School, Gurlhosur, Savadatti taluk; B.P. Chavalgi, S.P.A. High School, Devagaon, Bailhongal taluk; S.R. Goudar, S.I. Adargi Government High School, Salapur, Ramdurg taluk; R.S. Patil, M.M. High School, Salahalli, Ramdurg taluk; Smita Shankar Godse, Government Marathi Girls’ High School, No. 6, Angol, Belgaum; A.K. Uppar, Government Higher Primary School, Aralikatti, Belgaum taluk; Nrimala N. Anvekar, Government Higher Primary School No. 2 Bailhongal; K.T. Subhashini, Government Higher Primary School, Murgod, Savadatti taluk; and K.N. Yadravi, Government Higher Primary School, Aneguddi, Ramdurg taluk.

Belgaum Zilla Panchayat president Ashvini Shankargouda Patil inaugurated the celebrations.

Mayor Yallappa Kurbar and Deputy Commissioner G. Ravishankar were among those present.
