Fourteen alumni of Kolhapur Institute of Technology (KIT) hawked ‘vada pav’ in front of Shivaji University during a convocation on Saturday. They were protesting against the university’s decision not to recognise KIT’s M.E. courses in biotechnology and biochemical engineering. The issue has been raging for three years. So, though they completed their courses, the university is yet to give them degree certificates.

Woman crushed under water tanker

A 70-year-old woman was crushed to death when she was run over by a water tanker in Man taluk of Satara district. The lorry was backing up when the accident occurred. The police were searching for the driver who reportedly escaped from the spot. According to the people of the village, this was the fourth such fatal incident in the drought-affected area. — Correspondent

House looted

Four persons, including two women, looted the house of a 63-year-old woman, Neela Ghatge, at knife point in Satara Friday night. They took away 280 gm of gold ornaments and Rs. 9 lakh in cash. All the four had their faces covered. According to the police, Ms. Ghatge and her sister were at home during the robbery. — Correspondent
