HUBLI: Members of the Dharwad District Student Congress Committee staged a demonstration here on Thursday in protest against the proposed increase in student bus pass rate.

The protesters, who gathered at the Durgadbail Circle here for the demonstration, shouted slogans against the State Government for its anti-student measures.

The protesters burnt an effigy of Transport Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy. They alleged that the coalition government was apathetic towards the problems of students.

Bangaresh Hiremath, youth Congress leader who led the protest and Mohan Asundi, corporator, urged the State Government to withdraw the proposed move to increase the bus pass rate. They said the move would put students, especially those from rural areas, to hardship because it would be an additional burden on them.
