Gulbarga: Floriculture using organic farming methods has proven to be more beneficial to farmers as it helps increase the shelf life of flowers and improves soil fertility, a field trial conducted by students of the Vasavadatta Vidya Vihar in Sedam town of the district, has revealed. The students, Bhagyashree Krishna Kulkarni, Neeraj Awdesh Singh, Anup Dattatray Potdar, Ramya Ramesh Simpi, and Mounika Ravindra Ranjolkar, under the guidance of their principal Neeta Purohit and teacher Sulochana Reddy, conducted the fields trial on two plots of land by applying chemical fertilizer in one and organic manure in another.

The students had grown marigolds in both plots and they found that the flowers grown using organic farming methods were fresh and survived for a longer period.
