DHARWAD: Members of All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO), All India Democratic Youth Organisation (AIDYO) and All India Mahila Samskrutika Sanghatane staged a rasta roko here on Wednesday protesting against the alleged assault on AIDSO activists by ABVP workers in Hubli on Tuesday.

The protesters alleged that the ABVP workers had not only attacked them but also registered a false complaint against the AIDSO activists.

They gathered near the Vivekananda Circle here protesting against the incident and staged rasta roko for almost an hour demanding action against those responsible.

Addressing the protesters, AIDYO State secretary Ramanjanappa Aldalli questioned the silence of ABVP leaders over the sex education programme that was being introduced across the country. Instead of supporting the AIDSO protest against the sex education, the ABVP workers had attacked the protesters, he said.

Their side of the story

Meanwhile, ABVP workers have lodged a complaint with the police against alleged assault on them. They said AIDSO activists attacked them when they objected to "eve-teasing" by some of the members of the organisation during the protest march in Hubli on Tuesday.

It might be recalled that AIDSO, AIDYO and AIMSS had jointly organised a protest march in Hubli on Tuesday against the introduction of sex education programme in schools across the country, during which the alleged attack took place.

Following the complaint of ABVP leaders, the Hubli Police have arrested Laxman Jaragannavar of AIDYO and Mallu Huded of AIDSO.
