Students studying in institutions run by the Sana Educational Charitable Trust took out a protest rally here on Friday seeking stringent punishment for the accused in the Delhi gang-rape case.

Students and teachers began their protest march from the Sana Educational Charitable Trust at Bhairidevarakoppa here and walked up to the Kittur Chennamma Circle holding banners, placards and black flags.

The protesters said the December 16 incident in Delhi had brought shame to the country. Unless effective measures were taken to punish the guilty, such instances would recur, they said. Students demanded a comprehensive discussion for bringing in changes in laws so that the guilty get severe punishment. The protesters proceeded to the tahsildar’s office and submitted a memorandum.
