They were protesting against alleged assault by members of the Bhalki Bar Association

Bidar: The district-wide pen-down strike by the Revenue Department employees on Tuesday was total. They were protesting against the alleged assault of their colleagues by members of the Bhalki Bar Association.

Employees complained that a member of the Bhalki Bar Association, Dattatri Manikrao, and his clerk Krishnappa picked up a quarrel with Shirastedar Basavaraj Ambarashetty and a second division assistant Mohammad Fazal at the RTC centre last Wednesday. They allegedly assaulted Mr. Ambarashetty and Mr. Fazal.

However, they went to the town police station and registered a case against Mr. Ambarashetty and Mr. Fazal, saying that they had assaulted the lawyers, the employees said. Now they had formed a cartel and were refusing to plead for the injured employees.

Their bail petition was pending because they had no lawyers to plead for them, said employees' association secretary Mounish Lakha. The injured Shirastedar and SDA have booked a counter case against the lawyer and his clerk on Thursday.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Bhalki on Tuesday for some time after lawyers forced out some employees of the Revenue Department from the court premises. The revenue personnel, who were facing charges of assault, had brought lawyers from Bidar.

Police had to be called in. A police van is stationed on the court premises. Members of the Bhalki Bar Association organised a rasta roko, protesting delay in arresting revenue officials who allegedly assaulted them.
