Search on for three other accused

Belgaum: A six-month-old baby boy stolen on February 22 was traced and handed over to his parents here on Friday.

A police team from the Khade Bazaar Subdivision, comprising Deputy Superintendent of Police G.M. Desur, Police Inspector Shankargouda Patil, Sub-Inspector A.V. Salunke and constable A.R. Jadhav, on a tip-off, arrested Yusuf Khan Tahsildar (22) of Rukmininagar in Belgaum. During interrogation, he confessed that he had stolen the baby along with four others.

The accused took away the baby while his parents Ali Shaikh and Taslima Banu were asleep in a dargah at Peeranwadi on the outskirts of Belgaum.

Subsequently, they sold the baby to a family in Gadag with the help of Bhoopamma Basavenappa A.K. (50) of Janata Colony at Vaibhavnagar in Belgaum.

The police team went to Gadag and brought the baby back to Belgaum. They handed over the child to his parents in presence of Superintendent of Police Soniya Narang.

A search is on for the other accused Niyaz, Vasim and Bablu, according to a press release issued by the police.
