‘It will encourage youth to take up competitive swimming'
With the inauguration of the indoor swimming pool on Saturday, Chitradurga became the first district in the State to have a state-of-the-art pool built by the Department of Sports. Built in eight months, the pool complex also offers several other health and fitness facilities.
The pool area is 400 sq. m, and was built at the cost of around 1.43 crore; 25 m long and 27 meter wide, the pool has six lanes and is five ft deep.
Located behind the Chitradurga District Stadium, the swimming pool has been constructed under XII Finance Plan.
“Since swimming is an international sports event, the pool will encourage the youth of the district to take up competitive swimming,” said Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Gulihatti D. Shekhar.
A native of Chitradurga district, Mr. Shekhar has been instrumental in getting the project implemented.
Listing the other facilities at the pool, Sports Officer Mohammad Mohibullah said that the pool had a multi-gym and separate saunas for men and women.
“We also have a treadmill and an aerobics centre on the pool premises,” he said.
A mini-swimming pool has also been built for the children of aged between one and five, and ozonizers will be used to clean the water. Flood lights have been installed inside the pool to organise events after sunset.
The department had already appointed male trainers, he said adding that a dearth in female trainers had caused a delay in their appointment. Lifeguards had already been appointed, he said.
Mr. Mohibullah said that similar swimming pools were coming up at Hosadurga taluk of Chitradurga and Hassan.
