BANGALORE: The State Government has urged the Centre to allow it to take up sanitation schemes in villages under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.

Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Shobha Karandlaje told presspersons here on Monday that the Government would write to the Centre seeking permission to construct toilets under the job scheme in all districts of the State. The job scheme had evoked mixed response in various districts because of low wages (Rs. 82 a day).

Under the Act, the Government is allowed to implement only agriculture-related schemes.
