Raichur: The district unit of the Bahujan Samaj Party has demanded that the Government take action to amend the rules and appoint a special officer to facilitate early commencement of work on the agricultural university here.

Addressing presspersons here on Saturday, K.B. Shanthappa, general secretary of the State unit of the party, said that at the recent Cabinet meeting in Gulbarga, the Government had approved the establishment of an agricultural university in Raichur and sanctioned Rs. 5 crore for the purpose.

He said that the Government had also approved the establishment of a horticultural university in Bagalkot and sanctioned Rs. 10 crore. It also appointed a special officer to proceed with the work on setting up the university.

The Government should also enhance the amount to Rs. 10 crore for the agricultural university in Raichur, he said.
