The Hindu Business Line , in collaboration with the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and other trade bodies, would be hosting a stakeholder awareness and education seminar on ‘Agro-Business and Commodities Price Risk Management’, here on Friday.
The seminar will be held at the S.S. Patil Auditorium in the Hyderabad Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HKCCI) building here at 5 p.m. Speakers from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, the Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and HKCCI, and representatives of The Hindu Business Line would talk on futures and forward market and price risk management.
This is the first time that The Hindu Business Line has joined hands with NCDEX in Karnataka to organise a stakeholder awareness and education seminar.
The seminar would bring together prospective participants in agricultural commodity markets, with a view to creating awareness about price risk management. Similar seminars were held in Bangalore and Mysore this year.
The seminar gains importance now, due to the fact that farmers, particularly red gram growers in Gulbarga district, have been selling the commodity through NCDEX for the past two years. The entry of NCDEX in the marketing mechanism of red gram in the district two years ago had helped farmers secure better prices for their produce.
Participants would include stakeholders such as producers, processors, trading houses, importers and exporters in the physical market.
Prominent speakers include B.T. Pujari, Dean (Agriculture), University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur; Umakant Nigudgi, HKCCI president, and Shiva Shanmugam, FKCCI president.
Experts such as G. Chandrasekhar of The Hindu Business Line stationed in Mumbai would speak on ‘Commodities as critical drivers of India’s economic growth’; Deepak Sayana, NCDEX Deputy Manager, would speak on the ‘Benefits of commodity futures trading and exchange perspective and price risk management’ and K. Lakshmisha, General Manager of State Bank of Mysore (the banking partners of the seminar), would speak on the ‘Role of banks in agriculture’.
