Sirsi: Teachers of Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya of Panchavati at Malagi in Mundagod taluk near here went on a fast on Saturday (Teachers’ Day) in support of their demands as per the call given by the All India Navodaya Vidyalaya Staff Association and the Joint Action Committee of Employees’ Association, New Delhi.

Forty teaching and non-teaching staff of the vidyalaya went on a fast without affecting work. Their demands included payment of GPF and pension, new pension schemes and other facilities on par with kendriya vidyalayas, Central Tibetan and sainik schools.

Navodaya schools worked for seven days. When other Central schools worked for six days and their staff were eligible for modified pension and other schemes, the same should be extended to Navodaya schools also, the teachers said.
