The Samata Sainik Dal will commemorate the 129th birth anniversary of Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV on July 4 at a function slated to be held at the Freedom Park.Sessions will focus on the spirit of equality and justice he promoted and stood for, said M. Venkataswamy, SSD president.

Mr. Venkataswamy said: “The ruler was the first to champion the cause of the downtrodden by providing reservation for non-Brahmins in the state of Mysore. Similarly, he also championed the cause of women’s emancipation. He was progressive and modern.”

The event, titled ‘Parivartana Samavesha’ is slated to be inaugurated by Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad.

The organisation will also give away awards to five women, chosen from five working class groups to recognise and award their contributions.
