Srinivas V.S. Dempo, Chairman of Dempo Group of Industries, won the election to the post of president of Goa Football Association (GFA), a premier football body in the State, in a closely fought contest on Sunday.

He defeated his rival Peter Vaz, Chairman of Sporting Clube de Goa, by 10 votes at the polls held in Margao.

“Decentralising the administration of the GFA and addressing the issues of infrastructure in Goan football will remain the top priorities,” said a jubilant Mr. Dempo on Sunday after his victory.

Other office-bearers elected panel of GFA included vice-president Elvis Gomes (south Goa), Levinio Jude Rebello (north Goa), executive members, Salcet Zone: Shubert Furtado, Benjamin Silva, Anthony Pango and Beneditto Temudo; Murmogoa Zone: Lorence Gomes, Prakash Kamat and Savio Messias. Barez Zone: Babli Mandrekar, Alerio Bento Lobo, Uday Lingudkar and Gajanan Kerkar; Ilhas (Tiswadi) Zone: Welvin Menezes, Sanjiv Nagvekar and Angelo Albuqureque.
