Gulbarga-based Sri Sharana Basaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangh is planning to expand its operations across the Hyderabad Karnataka region.

“We opened an engineering college and a pre-university college in Bidar this year. We will start a public school here next year. We plan to open schools and colleges in Raichur and Koppal districts in the coming years,” Sharanabasappa Appa, head of the Sri Sharana Basaveshwar Samsthan, told presspersons here on Thursday.

He said the sangha had implemented a special teaching-learning system based on the IIT model.

“Schools and colleges function from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In every 90-minute period, there will be lecture for the first 30 minutes and teachers spend the next 15 minutes interacting with students. Later, the students write their assignments based on the topics discussed and teachers correct them on the spot. This system has brought significant results. The pass percentage in the Appa Institute of Engineering and Technology in Gulbarga is 98,” he said. All government quota seats in the Lingaraj Appa College in Bidar are full, Anil Kumar Vadve, special officer of the college, said.

The engineering college was formally inaugurated on Thursday. The college, located at Gornalli, has a 13.5-acre campus.

“We plan to open an MBA college on the same campus next academic year,” Basavaraj Deshmukh, college secretary, said.

Engineering college principal Sarika Raga and PU college principal S. Vijayalakshmi were among those present.
