Samaj Parivartana Samudaya (SPS) has sought Central Bureau of Investigation probe into illegal mining in the State.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, S.R. Hiremath, president of SPS, expressed doubts about the State Government acting against those indicted by the Lokayukta report on illegal mining.

Mr. Hiremath said that if the State Government was really keen on initiating action against illegal mining, it should entrust the responsibility of inquiring into the issue to the CBI as was done by the Andhra Pradesh Government.

He said SPS along with other like-minded organisations would launch a campaign across the State to urge the State Government to act on the report on illegal mining.

Mr. Hiremath said that SPS had already a submitted a letter to the Central Empowered Committee, urging it to follow up on the sworn affidavit by the Chief Secretary submitted to the apex court. “In the letter, we have also urged the CEC to intervene to ensure that stringent and effective action is initiated against all people's representatives and officials indicted in the Lokayukta report”, he said.
