Music aficionados here can enjoy an all-woman musical event at Karnatak Vidyavardhak Sangha auditorium here on Saturday.
Kalashri Sangeet Sabha, a musical forum, will organise the special concerts to mark International Women's Day, which is celebrated on March 8, as well as the 99th birth anniversary of Hindustani vocalist, the late Gangubai Hangal.
Disciples of Gangubai as well as women musicians who have found success in forms traditionally considered the domain of men will be among the performers, according to musician and sabha honorary president Sulabha Dutta Neeralgi.
These include Shakuntala Dani, the only woman jaltarang player, sitar player Jyoti Hegde and light music singer Anuradha Dhareshwar. Hindustani vocalists Sulabha and Kamal Rajiv Purandhare will be accompanied by Vijeta Hegde and Rekha Hampiholi on the tabla and harmonium respectively.
Senior women musicians will be felicitated and a book on women music achievers will be released.
