Power-cut in Kundapur

There will be no power supply to Kundapur town in Udupi district from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday. It is for maintenance work along 11 kV power supply line in the town, a Mescom release said.

‘Areca farmers’ losses at Rs. 1 lakh per acre’

A committee constituted by the Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd. to revise the production cost of arecanut held its first meeting here on Wednesday. The eight-member committee is headed by an economist G.V. Joshi, a former member of Karnataka State Planning Board. The committee decided to collect information required from farmers and researchers. The committee felt that farmers have suffered losses to the tune of Rs. 1 lakh per acre due to fruit rot disease this rainy season, a release said.

Parishat award for Hariyappa Pejawara

Kannada Sahitya Parishat has selected ‘Kalavidana Kole’, a collection of poems, written by Hariyappa Pejawara, an Associate Professor of English at Gokarnanatheswara College, Mangalore, for Nidusale Puttaswamayya literary endowment award for 2013. He is also a short story writer in Kannada.
