A pedestrian and a motorcycle rider were killed instantly and a third person, the pillion rider, was injured when a speeding lorry knocked them down near Chandapura Circle in Hebbagodi on Saturday afternoon.

The container lorry, belonging to a private company, was on its way to Hosur when it knocked down Ramakka (55), a labourer, killing her on the spot. It then rammed a motorcycle, killing Mahadev, the rider, and injuring the pillion rider. Mahadev was working as water supplier in Ommanahalli panchayat.

The driver soon abandoned the vehicle and fled while passersby rushed to the victims’ help. The Hebbagodi police are looking for him.

Arrests solve murder

A simple interrogation by suspicious police in Jaraganahalli led to their cracking a 10-month-old murder of a 35-year-old man.

A raid on an isolated area here led to the arrest of six armed men who were plotting to mug passersby, the Kumaraswamy Layout police said. The six are Manjunath (22), Madhusudhan (21), Venkatesh (23), Chandrashekar (21), Karthik (21) and Veera (21).

During interrogation, the arrested men confessed to murdering Nagaraj at a farm in Yelchenahalli on Kanakapura Road, following a row over a sex worker, on March 5, 2012.

The six were reportedly feeding their addiction to drugs with criminal activities. The police are investigating if the arrested are involved in any other case.
