Deputy Commissioner V. Anbukkumar has asked the Social Welfare Department and officials of other departments to properly use the 22.75 per cent of funds meant for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

Mr. Anbukkumar, who held a meeting with officials here on Thursday, noted that the implementation of various schemes and programmes for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes during the second quarter of the current financial year was better than the first quarter.

However, the pace of work should be increased to achieve the targets, he said.

He advised officials to take up development work under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in areas dominated by Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the district. He also instructed officials to submit a detailed report in that regard during the next meeting.

Mr. Anbukkumar said the government had formulated welfare schemes for the uplift of the two communities,.

Focus on target

Representatives of Dalit organisations were present at the meeting. They urged the district administration to ensure that all targets for the current financial year were achieved.
