Members of the Prajasattatmaka Hagu Purogami Chintana Vedike have urged the police to speed up the investigation into the murder of BJP leader Rohan Patil.

The vedike said the police had claimed to have enough evidence to arrest Ravi Swamy and M. Riyaz, members of the Bidar City Municipal Council.

However, they had not been arrested so far, they said. M.N. Sunder Raj, vedike secretary, said in a release that by making the arrests the police should show that the rule of law prevailed in the country.

He alleged that the transfer of Satish Kumar, Superintendent of Police, before the investigation was complete showed the government wanted to protect the offenders. If the government did not let the police arrest the accused, civil society groups would protest, Mr. Raj added.
