Clio Karabelias and Hindol Deb to perform

MANGALORE: The Kannada and Culture Department will organise a fusion jugalbandi of western concert harp and Hindustani sitar at the Town Hall here on October 29.

Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture for Dakshina Kannada R.S. Dalawai told presspersons here on Saturday that concert harpist Clio Karabelias and sitarist Hindol Deb will fuse the two instruments to produce melody and harmony.

He said the harpist had worked with well-known musicians, including A.R. Rehman. She mastered harp in Paris University and was doing research in a subject related to music.

Mr. Deb learnt music from his father Pachanan Deb. Later he was under the tutelage of Gaurav Majumdar and now a disciple of Deepak Chaudhari. He had been experimenting with sitar and had attempted jugalbandi even with folk music, Mr. Dalawai said.

Somesh Puri, a student of Ustad Akram Khan, would accompany them on tabla, he said.
