Madikeri: As many as 19,014 people in Kodagu have been photographed for issue of voter identity cards since the process began on April 16, according to Akram Pasha, Assistant Commissioner.

In a press release issued here on Monday, Mr. Pasha has said that although the process of issuing identity cards to voters began on April 16 in the three taluks, not many people came forward to avail themselves of the facility.

In view of this, a special drive would be undertaken in Madikeri and Somwarpet taluks from April 30 to May 5.

In Virajpet taluk, the drive would be held on May 4 and 5. Voters could make use of this facility, he said.

In Madikeri, photographing would be done at the Town Hall and at the taluk office in Somwarpet. In Virajpet taluk, the process would be held at the Town Panchayat Office, Mr. Pasha said.

Those who do not have voter identity cards could also exercise their franchise in the May 10 first phase of Assembly elections in Kodagu district by producing the prescribed documents such as passport, driving licence, pan card, identity cards issued by the State and Union governments, public sector organisations, post office, nationalised banks, Kisan credit card, ration card, Yashasvini card, etc., the official said.
