The Agriculture Department has fixed a target of taking up sowing operations in 2.68 lakh hectares during the kharif season this year in Yadgir district, according to sources here on Friday. The department had fixed the same target for the kharif season in the previous year. Of this, 70,100 hectares will be reserved for red gram; 47,000 for cotton; 38,000 for paddy; 37,400 for green gram; 22,000 for groundnut; 13,000 for bajra; and 2,000 for black gram, among others. The total area will be spread across three taluks: 98,785 hectares will be in Shahpur taluk; 98,605 in Surpur; and 70,930 in Yadgir. Sources said there was no shortage of seeds or fertilizer in Yadgir.
