Sambhaji Patil, MLA, has called upon the Union and State governments to make collective efforts and find a solution to the long-drawn boundary dispute.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of a new administrative block of Visvesvaraya Technological University on Jnana Sangama campus here on Tuesday.
Mr. Patil said: “We are fed up with the term ‘boundary’ being associated with Belgaum. Wittingly or unwittingly, many prefix the term with Belgaum and keep reminding us of the boundary dispute. I request Minister for Higher Education R.V. Deshpande to urge the Centre to find a permanent solution.” Interestingly, Mr. Patil, who got elected with the support of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti, which had been consistently demanding the transfer of Belgaum and other towns and villages to Maharashtra for over five decades, was all praise for Karnataka’s higher education system, particularly medical, and called for efforts to improve engineering and technological education in the State.
