BIDAR: The family members of Manojkumar (25), a soldier in the Meerut unit of the Indian Army, who allegedly committed suicide, are yet to receive the official word on the tragedy.

According to the Commanding Officer of the Meerut unit, Manojkumar allegedly committed suicide two days ago.

On Tuesday (July 22), they received information from the Dhannura police that Manojkumar had committed suicide. Manojkumar was a resident of Konamelkunda village of Bhalki taluk of the district.

However, even after two days there has been no clear communication from the Commanding Officer to the family members or to the Superintendent of Policeon the exact reasons for Manojkumar’s death or about the arrival of his body.

Speaking to The Hindu here on Thursday, Superintendent of Police A. Subramanyeswara Rao said, “I spoke to the officers at Meerut and they told me they would send the body of Manojkumar after conducting a postmortem.”

To a question, Mr. Rao said, “The officers have not called back. I tried to contact them again on Thursday but could not establish contact with them.” Shivakumar, a cousin of Manojkumar, said that there was no communication from the officers after the news was broken to the family.

The reasons behind the alleged suicide is not known to the family and family and relatives are confused, he added.

Mr. Shivakumar said Manojkumar joined the Army four years ago.

He is survived by his mother and a sister.

A pall of gloom has engulfed the village. Residents of the village have mourned the death of Manojkumar. Relatives of Manojkumar have gathered at his house to console the bereaved family.
