G.M. Sumanth (23) of the 39 Rashtriya Rifles at Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated with state honours at his native village Gejjalagere in Maddur taluk on Friday.

Mr. Sumanth, a driver, died after a military lorry overturned in Poonch on March 19.

Deputy Commissioner M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase and other officials received the coffin at 3.30 a.m. Later, it was shifted to a private hospital. The district administration paid tributes to Mr. Sumanth near Sir M. Visvesvaraya statue off Bangalore-Mysore Highway. The body draped in the tricolour was taken in a procession to Gejjalagere and handed over to his parents, Mahadev and Meenakshi.
